Blog Action Day! Little Things Make a Big Difference

As many of you know, today is Blog Action Day. Hundreds, if not thousands, of bloggers post about what needs to be done to help the planet and stop global warming. I prefer to take a moment and discuss what you can do, today, right now in fact. Most of them with little effort by you.

Right now:

  • Turn off the lights in any room being unused.
  • Put a brick in your toilet tank to use less water.
  • Replace all your incandescent light bulbs with CFLs or (even better) LEDs.
  • Buy a water filter and stop buying bottled water.
  • Start buying organic vegetables. (No chemicals, no pollution.)
  • Drive slower and save gas.
  • Get your oil changed.
  • Check your tire pressure and refill as necessary.
  • Plant a tree, a bush, a flower, a cactus, anything that will live naturally in your environment.
  • Walk or ride a bike to work.
  • Bring your lunch. (No delivery driver, no gas used.)
  • Write a letter to your congress person, your senator, your governor, your mayor. (or just CC them on the same email.)

See, most of those things won’t take you more then 10 minutes or so, and if you keep up with it, you’ll find that many of them become habit. Besides there are other reasons to do these things. Slowing down will save you gas, organic fruits and vegetables usually taste better, CFLs and LEDs last a lot longer than regular light bulbs and save you money there.

Well, that’s that. Happy Blog Action Day!!!
